Goal

Improve the efficiency of primary production and value addition via managing ecosystem service and resilience as a community responsibility


Main Objectives

  • Disseminate local, regional and global level knowledge to implement mitigatory measures to address the desertification and improve the productivity of agricultural production in all agroclimatic regions of Sri Lanka


  • Building up awareness among potential stakeholders and all citizens about future challenges due to desertification and declining groundwater resources in Sri Lanka


  • Explore the potential and formulate necessary initiatives to improve the productivity of dry zone Agro-Ecosystems and identify measures to improve the ecosystem services and resilience of “Ëllanga” ecosystem as the main production unit or the technology sharing platform of dry zone agriculture in Sri Lanka


  • Build up necessary policy initiatives to promote supply chain management via public private partnership, practicing green approach to minimize impacts of desertification and replenishment of groundwater resources at each supply level


  • Raise awareness about environmental impacts of existing human settlement schemes over desertification and degrading groundwater resources


  • Development of necessary policy tools to share limiting land resources in Sri Lanka for agricultural, commercial, industrial and residential purposes and explore the possibility of implementing vertically expanding settlement schemes


Investigate the possibility of incorporating traditional and indigenous knowledgebases in safeguarding ecosystem services and resilience in Sri Lanka
