Desertification and Groundwater
To develop a technology knowledge base and guidelines for selecting appropriate technology applications to propose mitigatory measures to improve degrading groundwater resources and reverse desertification to support ecosystem services and resilience in the dry zone of Sri Lanka
Ministry of environment and wildlife resources is mainly concern about current trends in groundwater degradation and desertification in Sri Lanka, initiated a coordinated approach to address these issues. Therefore, the ministry is currently planning to build up awareness among the higher authorities of all stakeholders, who are directly responsible for taking immediate mitigatory measures. Ministry also identifies the role played by the media sector as a very important sector to be well equipped with the necessary information to facilitate knowledge dissemination when and where necessary. Several important measures were taken by the ministry to minimize the gaps between administrates and the political authority and to formulate necessary policy initiatives during this symposium.
