Objectives

Desertification and Groundwater

To build up community awareness at grassroot level about the importance of protecting groundwater resources and address desertification with local level field intervention approaches.
To encourage young film producers to create films and documentaries about the community responsibility of managing ecosystem services and resilience
Ministry of Environment and wildlife is currently planning to coordinate all media units in relevant ministries like, Ministry of Mahaweli, agriculture, irrigation and rural development, Ministry of Industries and supply chain management, universities, vocational and other technology institutions to develop a collaborative approach to address this ecological disaster and planning to develop series of awareness short films related to these issues and mitigatory measures those could be practiced in Sri Lanka and already practicing in other countries aiming to improve the community participation and responsibility sharing to resolve these issues.
